Telematics for the Analysis of Vehicle Fleet Fuel Consumption

Within the European research project SimpleFleet, a telematics system for fleet management business intelligence was developed, delivering live or near-realtime statistics about individual vehicles or the entire fleet. This supports the fleet manager in ad-hoc decisions and in medium and long term improvements. The fleet vehicles (e.g. taxis, delivery vans) are equipped with an On-Board-Unit (O...

Fleet Management Coordination in Decentralized Humanitarian Operations

We study incentive alignment for the coordination of operations in humanitarian settings. Our research focuses on transportation, the second largest overhead cost to humanitarian organizations after personnel. Motivated by field research, we study the fleet size problem from a managerial perspective. In terms of transportation, an equity focused Humanitarian Program implemented by an Internatio...

Optimal Fleet Selection for Earthmoving Operations

Earthmoving operations often involve a large number of specially designed equipment with significant purchasing/leasing prices, high operating and maintenance costs. Hence, choosing the right fleet is a major concern from the construction planners’ point of view. This paper presents a methodology that combines discrete-event simulation and optimization to solve the optimal fleet selection probl...

Fleet Management

Fleet management addresses the problem of managing fleets of trailers, containers, boxcars, taxicabs, locomotives and business jets. In many applications, requests to be moved from one location to another arrive randomly over time. Since it may take days to move from one location to the next, it is often useful (even necessary) to reposition equipment before a customer demand is known. We use t...

Fleet Management for Vehicle Sharing Operations Final Report

Transit, touted as a solution to urban mobility problems, cannot match the addictive flexibility of the automobile. 86.5% of all trips in the U.S. are in personal vehicles (USDOT 2001). A more recent approach to reduce automobile ownership is through the use of vehicle sharing programs (VSPs). A VSP involves a fleet of vehicles located strategically at stations across the transportation network...
